Karina Smirnoff – Our Newly Single Bronzed Beauty

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

It’s really not a coincidence that we chose the gorgeous Karina Smirnoff (Dancing With The Stars) as our bronzed beauty of the week at the same time news broke about the split between her and fiance, Maksim Chmerkovskiy. This news was confirmed eight months after the “Dancing With the Stars” co-stars announced their engagement, according to E! Online. At least we can still appreciate her beautiful glow in this sexy ensemble.
Are you looking for the same bronzed look? Make an appointment at any of our Sunset Tan locations and we’ll set you up. You never know, maybe you can be our next bronzed beauty. :)

The Bridal Artistry group of on-site makeup and hair pros are here to blog about beauty! As the largest professional group of wedding industry makeup/hair stylists in the DC area, since 2001 we have specialized in making dreams of beautiful brides come true…. so we’ve got tips…. we’ve got insights … and we want to hear your questions.

Barbara Hill (that’s me) and Ky Washington were the makeup & hair team for Weddzilla.com founders Aaron & Kristen’s 2007 wedding while they were launching WZ into beta (how does anyone do this while planning a wedding anyway??). So here we are ready to contribute our professional industry view to the whole subject of looking amazing for the wedding. I have blogged on the Relentlessbride.com site and am excited now about the WZ corner of the cyber universe.

Our team of 8 makeup & hair pros will be taking turns with tips and insights. We are a multi-ethnic team and are on the same page re professionalism in the beauty industry and giving brides the look they want. Check us each out and send any questions directly to our emails.
We all coordinate using the same makeup kit, so brides have an “insurance policy” with our team
in case something (rarely) comes up ~ We cover for each other and can duplicate the look you want. Free-lancers working alone don’t have this luxury/advantage.

Three Little Known Skin Beauty Tips (Not Tanning!)

Friday, November 27th, 2009

Every day thousands of women spend a fortune in beauty products trying to find the fountain of youth. Every line of beauty products promises the same thing; and every one claims to be the best. You will often see beautiful models promoting the various lines of beauty products. The truth is that genetics and air-brushing the photos have a lot more influence on them than what beauty products they use; most likely they don’t even use the product they are promoting. I would like to share with you three of my little known skin beauty tips. Every day people mistake me for being between five to ten years younger than I really am, because of the way that I take care of my skin.

Tip number one: Consistency and routine

When it comes to finding the right facial cream, you don’t need to pay big money for a name brand. Every cream claims to have some kind of new “super ingredient” that will reverse the signs of aging. The truth is you need to start taking care of your skin even before fine lines begin to appear. There is no “magic” cream, almost any moistureizer will work as well as another. The secret is consistency. You must wash your face every night and liberally apply the moistureizer, massaging it into your face. Sleep with your hair pulled back, away from your face. In the morning, wash your face again, afterward splashing it with cold water to tone and close pores. Let your face air dry before applying moistureizer. If you are prone to acne this is the time to aplly your acne cream. Don’t spend alot of money for name brands. The secret is to look at the ingredients. There are two types of acne medication; one is salylic acid, the other is benzyol peroxide. Most pharmacies carry generic brands of either one for about one tenth of the price of the name brands.

Tip number two: diluting your liquid foundation.

For every day use I have found that most liquid foundation is very thick and heavy. A great way to help not only protect your skin, but also to have a more flattering natural look is by diluting your liquid foundation. Do not dilute it ahead of time, but as you need it. In the palm of your hand, place one drop of sun block lotion with an SPF of fifteen, and two drops of your liquid foundation; mix together with a Q-tip then apply to your face as you normally would. For trouble skin spots that still show through the diluted foundation, you can touch them up with a little un-diluted liquid foundation. When choosing the sunblock it is best to choose a facial moisturizer with SPF protection. Regular sunblock is very greasy and could clog pores.

Tip number three: Remove facial make-up safely and effectively

When it comes time to remove your make-up, you don’t need expensive eye makeup remover. Soap and water probably is not a good idea either unless you want red irritated eyes. The best way to remove eye make up is with plain petroleum jelly. A large jar is usually sold for only a couple of dollars, and it should last ou at least a month. With your fingers, apply to your eyelids and eyelashes, and rub in. With a cotton pad gently wipe off the petroleum jelly, the eye make up will come off with it. This also works for removing foundation and lipstick.

I hope these three tips will help you to attain the skin you have been looking for.
