Get Married’s Season Premiere

Saturday, January 2nd, 2010

If you are like me, then you caught the season premiere of “Get Married” this morning on WEtv. The one thing I loved the most out of the show was the table scape Michelle created. The peacock feathers she incorporated were amazing. I’m in love with peacock feathers right now, so this is def. something I could consider doing. The ideas about the lighting and mirrors were wondreful. It helped me think of ideas, I would have never thought of otherwise.

The memorial frames are great ideas to me, because both of us have lost grandparents that are really important to us within the last year, so I’m glad Michelle did this, because it’s important that I find a way to honor them.

Mary Guiliana showed an awesome way to present foods during the cocktail/appetizer hour. The mini grilled cheeses were to die for. As for the chicken/beef tacos with the mini chilled margaritas–don’t get me started!! The mini food/drink ideas are wonderful and to me they are different: I just want to know where you would get the mini champagne glasses if I planned on doing this myself.

The fact that the mini foods were designed to keep guest on their feet and the party moving were great ideas, especially since I’m not one for a dull party. I’m glad Stacy was a fun bride, Mary provided a lot of great ideas that any bride could use. Since I am a DIY bride, this would be an easy idea to convey to my small gathering of 75 ppl.

P.S. Did anyone see the cereal bar at Jason Biggs(American Pie) wedding? That rice crispy treat wedding cake, was so much fun (bridal shower idea maybe?).

The Birdcage

Friday, January 1st, 2010

Lately I have become a major proponent of the Russian aka Birdcage veil. I’ve been seeing a lot of brides wear these lately, and slowly but surely I am starting to warm up to this style.

There are two dresses I have in mind (maybe 3) when I go for my appointment in a few weeks, and if those particular dresses don’t fit my fancy, then I will have to say bye bye to the Russian veil.

I think these veils are just enough where they are still elegant, but they won’t take all the attention away from the bride like some other veils do. Many of the veils have designs and beading on them, and when you start getting into the larger veils (like cathedral or even fingertip) they can be so overwhelming that guests have a tendency to focus on the headpiece instead of the bride and the dress. I think I am starting to want something that is a little more simple and elegant without being too ‘omg’.

Here are some pics of the veils below from Davids’ Bridal.com, Castle Bride.com and Unveiled Bridal Designs.com:

As you can see there varying lengths of this style veil, but they don’t appear to come in a length that’s too long. Which I really love. I do believe this to be a strong contender for a veil style. But like I said, I have to see it on me first. Is there anyone else considering this style veil?

(P.S. I love drinking wine and blogging, very relaxing!)

Wedding Engagement Annoucements

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

There are many ways to share with family, friends, and co-workers about the wedding engagement announcement, but who should couples share information with first? Normally, the couples share the news with the bride’s parents and then the grooms parents, but where can the bride and groom make their wedding announcement? Typically, the couples do not make the wedding announcements, however, the bride’s parents should contact the groom’s parents to create The Wedding Engagement Announcement and then submit the wedding announcement in the newspaper, online newspaper, or submit free wedding announcements on www.theweddingdiaryonline.com.

The information needed for the wedding announcement submission:
•Photograph of the Bride and Groom (Make sure you get extra copies from your photographer)
•Bride and Groom Full Name and Location
•Bride and Groom Parents Name and Location
•Bride and Groom Occupations
•Name of the Bride and Groom Parents Occupations
•Name of the Bride and Groom Grandparents (optional)
•Wedding Date
•Name of the City Where the Couple will reside (optional)

After the couples have the information for the Wedding Announcement Submission, the Wedding Announcement Wording is the next step in the process. Usually, the basic content would be as follows:

Mr. and Mrs. Ryan Smith of Charlotte, Michigan announce the engagement of their daughter, Miss Cherise Smith to Mr. Joel Lambarti, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Lambarti of Charlotte, Michigan. The wedding date is planned for May 2010 in Charlotte, Michigan at Bennett Park.

Miss Smith was a graduate from Michigan State University and is an marketing assistant for LED communications in Lansing, Michigan. Mr. Joel Lambarti was a graduate from Olivet College and is a manager and is working for SEO Solutions in Grand Ledge, Michigan.

‘Tis The Season of Gift Giving

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

“You have a year to give a wedding gift”.
We want to know who came up with that one. It has become common knowledge that a bride and groom can expect to wait up to a year to receive a gift from some guests. When you go to a wedding no one says…you may have to wait a year to receive your meal (even though at some weddings by the time dinner is served it feels like a year has passed).

Honestly people…if you go to a wedding…give a gift, sooner rather than later.
If you are unable to attend you may have a little more wiggle room, but still does it really take a year to send a gift?!?! If you can’t get it together to send a gift in a reasonable amount of time, you are lazier than the contestants on the first week of The Biggest Loser. Ok so we have established the fact that some people are lazy, but eventually do send a gift.

What about the people who attend the wedding and NEVER send a gift? Aren’t these people technically wedding crashers that you happen to know?
We know you ‘no gifters’ are out there and we have a question for you….do you feel guilty?
Do you think it’s ok to not give a gift?
I honestly would love to have Maury do a show with some of you to hear your confessions (he really needs to move away from the who’s my baby’s daddy thing anyway). I know this sounds like a rant, but I bet that every bride out there can name at least one person who came to her wedding and failed to give a gift. Gifts do not have to be expensive or lavish, it could be as simple as sending the bride and groom a framed photo or invitation. When you do not give a gift, it is almost as if your friend is paying you to attend her wedding…actually, it’s exactly that!! Someone is paying for you to have an enjoyable night of dinner and dancing, in celebration of their marriage….shouldn’t you have the decency to at least thank them for the hospitality?
Give gifts. Enough said.

Bridal Makeup Mistakes… and other Bloopers

As a professional makeup artist and hairstylist I see plenty of beautiful, happy brides and I would like to keep it that way. So consider this article my gift to you engaged ladies. This will keep you from making mistakes and keep you looking amazing for your big day.

The first mistake some brides make is not having a professional do their makeup. Ladies, think of having your makeup done as insurance that your photos will turn out awesome. (Personally I think any item of clothing over $1000 deserves pro makeup.)

I never understand why a bride would pay an unimaginable amount for a photographer and hairstylist and have a visible zit or under eye circle ruin all her photos.

I want to tell you a little story to prove my point. I had a bride who got married at a popular venue and there was a bride already having her reception when we arrived. I went with the bride to the ladies room so she could look at her hair and makeup in a large mirror. As, we went in, so did the other bride and her bridesmaids. She was a beautiful girl and her dress was amazing, but it was obvious she didn’t have her makeup or hair professionally done. All of her bridesmaids immediately started ooohing and ahhhhing over my bride and almost forgot that the other bride was waiting for them to help her go to the bathroom (this is something to think about if you have a princess dress). After they left, my bride said to me, “I am so glad you were here to make me look so polished, I do NOT want to look like that at the end of the evening”. She later sent me photos and she looked fabulous from start to finish.

Ok, so now that you are definitely going to have your makeup professionally done, right? Here are some other things to consider.

Using the wrong type of products is a no no. Unless you are going for the Courtney Love look on the cover of Hole’s first album (look it up, it’s scary), I would strongly suggest wearing waterproof eye makeup. Also, mineral makeup is great for everyday but it can look a little like a disco ball once the flash goes off on a camera.

Testing out products first is a must to avoid allergic reaction. That being said, ALWAYS have a trial run for makeup. You want to make sure you not only avoid reaction but that you and the makeup artist share the same vision (i.e. if your idea of natural is more Kate Hudson and your makeup artist is thinking Amy Winehouse).

More tips coming in part 2.
