9 Tips for a Successful Spray Tan

before-and-after

  • Plan ahead. Which day do you want to look most gorgeous? Book your Spray Tan for the day or two before this.
  • Exfolitation. Always make sure your skin is exfoliated. If you do not exfoliate regularly, do it every couple of days leading up to your Spray Tan. Concentrate on areas such as knees, feet, elbows and ankles because you do not want discoloration in those normally dry areas. Try Garnier Skin Naturals BodyTonic Sugar Scrub, $11.99
  • Remove Residue. It is a good idea to shower before your Spray Tan appointment — you need to remove moisturizer, deodorant, and sweat.
  • Timing. This can be tricky: if you have your Spray Tan in the morning, you risk smelling like fake tan for the rest of the day (while you also go deodorant free). Afternoon tan? Well, you might not have time to leave the office and have a shower first. Tip: Make an afternoon appointment, and if there’s no time for a shower, wipe yourself over with a cleansing wipe first.
  • Clothing. Wear lose, dark clothing to your appointment — even go without a bra (if you can). Don’t wear anything you’d want to risk fake tan ending up on. Remember to take thongs — slipping strappy heels straight back on will only cause patchiness on your feet.
  • Don’t be shy. Spray Tanners have seen it all; from drag queens to grandmas in the nude. The less you wear, the better the results. If you feel more comfortable wearing your underwear, go ahead. Otherwise take advantage of the paper panties that we have available for you to use.
  • Activity. There’s no point forking out $$$ if you’re going to head straight to the gym or out on the town within four to eight ours of your tan. You’ll just sweat and your color will either come off or become patchy.
  • Waiting Period. Wait at least 8 hours before washing, and remember: it’s normal for some color to come off when you first shower. Keep your water temperature at cool to warm and don’t scrub your skin. Instead, gently wash your body (without a loofah) and when drying, pat your skin rather than rub it.
  • Moisturize. Keep your body moisturized over the next 7 days. You can’t stop the natural cycle of shedding skin cells, but you can keep your skin hydrated so that patchiness is reduced as your tan fades as well as prolong your tan.
  • The Best Spray Tan: A Guide

So you’re looking for the best Spray Tan that you can possibly get. Many people are, but really miss the point of what to look out for. Here are some tips that will get you the best possible Spray Tan.

For starters, make sure you buy (or your Spray Tanner is using) a paraben free Spray Tanning lotion or spray. Paraben based products have a terrible habit of leaving streaks in the tan. If you want a smooth and even tan, then you should try to avoid these inferior products.

Secondly, try to make sure that the ingredients of the lotion or spray that you are using are organic. This is just a personal bias, but I feel a lot more comfortable with an organic based tanner than I do with harsh chemicals.

Consider using a mobile Spray Tanner or going to a salon. The simple fact is that a professional will do a better job than you can by yourself. They are used to applying the tans to their customers and they have a lot of practice. If you’re worried about the price, then you might be pleasantly surprised with most Spray Tanners charging somehwhere between $30 and $50 which is quite reasonable.

Remember to exfoliate before you apply the tan. This just stops the chances that any skin might come away and leave a blotch after your tan has been applied.

Most importantly, take notice of what your Spray Tanner is recommending. If you are using a professional then they know what they are talking about!

Taking a few simple precautions can ensure that you get the best Spray Tan for yourself, regardless of budget. Take this advice and you should be on the right path!
