Get Married’s Season Premiere

Saturday, January 2nd, 2010

If you are like me, then you caught the season premiere of “Get Married” this morning on WEtv. The one thing I loved the most out of the show was the table scape Michelle created. The peacock feathers she incorporated were amazing. I’m in love with peacock feathers right now, so this is def. something I could consider doing. The ideas about the lighting and mirrors were wondreful. It helped me think of ideas, I would have never thought of otherwise.

The memorial frames are great ideas to me, because both of us have lost grandparents that are really important to us within the last year, so I’m glad Michelle did this, because it’s important that I find a way to honor them.

Mary Guiliana showed an awesome way to present foods during the cocktail/appetizer hour. The mini grilled cheeses were to die for. As for the chicken/beef tacos with the mini chilled margaritas–don’t get me started!! The mini food/drink ideas are wonderful and to me they are different: I just want to know where you would get the mini champagne glasses if I planned on doing this myself.

The fact that the mini foods were designed to keep guest on their feet and the party moving were great ideas, especially since I’m not one for a dull party. I’m glad Stacy was a fun bride, Mary provided a lot of great ideas that any bride could use. Since I am a DIY bride, this would be an easy idea to convey to my small gathering of 75 ppl.

P.S. Did anyone see the cereal bar at Jason Biggs(American Pie) wedding? That rice crispy treat wedding cake, was so much fun (bridal shower idea maybe?).

The Running of the Bride

Tuesday, December 8th, 2009

I don’t make any claims to be “athletic” {in fact, I rarely wear sneakers or work out gear outside of a gym}.

However, since my decision to put on a big, white dress and stand up in front of 100 of my nearest and dearest less than a year from now, I made a decision to crank my exercise regimen up a notch to lose those last few nagging pounds.

Enter my current passion…running.

Since I got engaged, I have been running in local charity races at a rate of about one or two per month: A 5K to raise money for AIDS research or for student athletic programs here or maybe an 8K to help fight kidney disease or cancer there. I was my attempt to combine physical activity with activism, even if on a very small scale. Lazily, I never pushed myself to run anything longer since my work out runs are usually only 2-5 miles a couple times per week.

Until now…

On December 13, I will participate in my first 10K race {for those of you who don’t know, that’s 6.2 miles of sustained running} with a goal of completing my first ten miler a few weeks after my 40th birthday in March of next year.

Running has been not just a good way to burn off my love of food, drink, and all things dessert related {I did a 5K Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning}; it’s also a way for me to disconnect from the stress of wedding planning, work, and life in general. As cliché as it sounds, I find that when I run and it’s just me and the road or trail {and some house music on the iPod}…I really am able to clear my mind and reconnect with what makes me “me” for a few brief moments.

What are you doing to reconnect with YOU during the stress of wedding planning?

Several Ways to Save at Your Wedding!

Monday, November 30th, 2009

Use A and B Guest Lists
By keeping your guest list small, it will help you save tons of money. A good rule of thumb is use an A and B list. An A list is a list of guests you want to invite and who are top priority. The B list is are people would like to invite, but do not have the budget to invite them. The B list is good to keep in case a guest cancels from A list.

Reply Cards
Instead of having a reply card, you can simply put on wedding invitations that you have a wedding website, so guests can respond to for RSVP’s. It is an easy way to save money!

Sample Sales and Used and New Wedding Dresses
There are tons of websites that offer sample sales, trunk shows, and used and new wedding dresses. Websites would include eBay, Bravo Bride, or even check out David’s Bridal or Chadwicks. They always have inexpensive, yet elegant wedding dresses.

Change the Day of the Week of the Wedding
Evening weddings or on a Sunday are days that are not in as much demand.

Book Your Wedding Before or During the Holidays
Wherever you choose to hold your wedding ceremony, during the holiday season it is usually decorated, if it is not candles are an inexpensive way to go for just a simple look for your ceremony.

Utilize Your Family
If you have family members that are musicians, bakery, florists, caterers, photographers, or chauffeurs ask for their help. Using reliable family members to help you reduce costs for your weddings is great because not only is it saving you money, but they feel like they are apart of the wedding.

DIY Crafts
DIY Bridal Parties are a great way to have brides and the bridal party pitch in to help make your favors, centerpieces, diy invitations, bridal bouquets and other wedding related items for your wedding day.

Food and Drinks
If you are having a catered wedding reception, ask your caterer about which would be cheaper if it would be buffet style or seated dinner. Usually, buffet style is cheaper though. Offering alcoholic beverages see if you can provide your own liquor like beer and wine. It’s just a way to reduce costs for your wedding and if the cost is too much than consider an alcoholic free event.
